Advanced technology affects almost every area of our lives in this modern society. Computers and cell phones are everyday tools which are only the surface of the technology explosion. One of the areas which has benefited from advanced technology is medicine and all the related health care areas. Procedures for testing and screening find disease risk early, and preventative treatment is available. Those treating trauma and victims of accidents have great tools available to minimize the damage. Even for disease and aging issues, medical devices can add life and vitality back quickly.
Unfortunately, these great advances have brought their own set of problems and risks. Who hasn't seen a television commercial for an advanced medicine or procedure, followed by a long list of really scary potential side effects.
It's not just the side effects which carry risk for a patient. The devises themselves can bring risk of failure. The human body is highly variable, and it takes skill and training to perform modern procedures. The medical community works hard to provide excellent care, but often the facility, financial and personnel resources are at their limit. The result can be tragic for a patient whom they are trying to help.
